Hope and Help for Families with Special Needs Children

The following quote by Sarah Palin is the inspiration for the title.

Sometimes even the greatest joys bring challenge, and children with special needs inspire a very, very, special love.

This blog is written by very special mothers who carry the burden and experience the joy of a child with special needs. Its focus is on things you don’t learn from a doctor or medical textbook, but practical information learned from mothers’ experiences. Moreover, it contains emotional and spiritual counsel to uplift and encourage, including life in the real world, temporary lapses in faith (a.k.a. meltdowns), and humor!

As a mother of six children, three of whom have childhood diabetes, I often craved good reading material that would be helpful and inspiring. However, I frequently found it lacking and even discouraging. I thought about the friends of mine who also bear the burden of a child with special needs. I appreciated these compassionate ladies and how they have ministered to my soul over the years. Why not get together with these women and create a work that would appeal to many, if not all, special needs families? I approached my dear friends with a plan to write a book, and I was so happy that most wanted “in!” I even made some new friends along the journey and picked up a few more authors. My idea eventually evolved into this blog.

10.2 million U.S. children have special healthcare needs, or 14% of all U.S. Children. Special Needs ~ Special Love is written to help and encourage those who share our joys and struggles, and to the very special people in the educational and medical fields whose life’s work is to minister to these families, and to those of you who desire to bless families with extra ordinary circumstances. Laugh and cry with us as you enter into our world of special needs children.
